FAQ

When is the Best Time to Book Newborn Photos?

There's really no right answer to this. Everyone feels differently about sharing with others when they are expecting.

Some parents will reach out to me within minutes of getting a positive pregnancy test to book their session. Others will wait until they complete their first trimester. Either is totally okay and acceptable.

Usually, I can accommodate newborns as long as they're booked by the end of the second trimester.

How do You Book Newborn Photos When You Don't Know When Babe Will be Born?

Once you have booked a newborn session with me, I mark your due date in my calendar. Typically, babes are born within about three weeks of this due date, so I allow for lots of open spaces in my calendar around your due date. I make sure to not overbook myself around your due date.

If you get an update from your OBGYN or midwife about your potential birth - maybe you will be induced early - please forward this information to myself so I can adjust my calendar accordingly.

At What Age do You Photograph Newborns?

Traditionally, newborn photos take place within the first two weeks of birth. However, since the pandemic, I prefer to photograph babes after they have surpassed the two-week mark. I usually photograph babes within two - five weeks of birth.

I find the older the baby, the easier they are to photograph. This is because everyone is more relaxed. Mom has had a chance to recover. She isn't still wearing pads or diapers. She isn't hobbling around in pain from an episiotomy or Caesarian section. Her milk has come in and become a little more regulated, her breasts aren't tender and nipples aren't swollen. The parents have figured out a feeding schedule that works for both them and baby, and they are much more comfortable holding baby and allowing others to hold baby.

When are Newborn Shoots Scheduled?

I am very strict as to when I photograph newborns. I do newborn photoshoots on weekdays (Monday - Friday) at 10:00am sharp. These shoots are typically 2 - 3 hours in length. As I do not have childcare on weekends or in the evenings, I am strict on this scheduling. Newborn shoots are also scheduled in the morning because babes tend to sleep best in the morning.

My Baby is in the NICU? Will this Affect my Photoshoot?

Absolutely not. My son is a NICU warrior and spent over two weeks in the NICU. Once baby has graduated from the NICU and you are comfortable, we will book your session in. Babes can be in the NICU for days, weeks, or months. I will gladly photograph them once they have been discharged, no matter the age.

I had a Miscarriage. Should I Let You Know?

Having a miscarriage is one of the hardest events a mom will ever go through. Unfortunately, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss. I myself had two miscarriages before having my rainbow baby.

If you've booked a newborn session with me and suffer a loss, you do not need to reach out to me to disclose this information, unless you choose to. I will offer my sympathies and provide you with resources to navigate the loss. If you choose to not disclose this information, I will not contact you when your due date is up asking if babe has arrived. I do not chase clients for this exact reason.
